Reporting to the Technical Operations Lead, the Director of Manufacturing Innovation is responsible for leading all front-end process engineering and innovation strategies and activities within the Joints Reconstruction Supply Chain platform of DePuy Synthes. This includes conceptualization, scouting, development, optimization, technical transformation internally or externally to meet the strategic objectives of the business. This Leader will also be a member of the Global Technical Operations Leadership Team, to ensure alignment across the engineering community.

Key Role Responsibilities

  • Front End Innovation - Leading a scouting and test & learn operating model that will deliver a pipeline of Technology based projects/ programs using both internal and external open innovation frameworks & partnerships.
  • Leadership of the innovation focused materials & technology platform and virtual teams including Additive Manufacturing, Raw Materials, Biomaterials & Coatings, Cleaning & Surface technology, Packaging & Inspection, Automation & Digital including digital machine programming.
  • Advancing our next frontier of additive manufacturing to deliver differentiated product innovations, transform GP & grow new revenue. Lead process research, process development, design for manufacture, launch planning and execution, and ultimately full release to market. Responsible for DePuy Synthes Franchise (Spine, Hips, Knees & Shoulders) investment into additive capabilities, Network strategy, Value Capture and Revenue growth to support product differentiation and improve healthcare.
  • Establish and govern automation, digital & cybersecurity standards and technical strategy in line with IT/OT requirements and/or strategy and business expectations.
  • Implement a detailed approach for Design for Manufacturing / Design to Value of new products without diminishing the effectiveness of the products/services nor the quality or time to market. Provide overall direction and strategic mentorship for the Value Engineering efforts across the Technical operations organization.
  • Develop and lead world-class manufacturing innovation function benchmarked globally. Enhance the power of diversity and inclusion in the team.
  • Develop a talent strategy for the team that supports individual and team development and meets the skills and capabilities of the future.
  • Ensure global standards, and emerging trends / technologies are identified and communicated for key process and digital technologies.
  • Work in collaboration with other leaders across J&J to Discover, Design, De-Risk and Deliver exciting innovations that are co-created with external partners.
  • SME support for materials & process technology issues and dedicated platform contact point for technical SME’s in support of Business Development (merger / acquisition) activity.
  • Establish strong E2E partnerships through the application of Communities of Practice or virtual team models.
  • Ensure that all projects and initiatives are carried out in compliance with Johnson & Johnson policies and procedures, current Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP / GXP), Safety, Environmental, and other regulatory agencies.
  • Drive a culture of “being the best that we can be” and a steadfast pursuit of process and delivery excellence.
  • The role requires collaboration in line with our E2E Operating model. At this level, the position has a direct contribution to the development of business and/or functional strategies and typically, responsibility for growth of the Joints Reconstruction Supply Chain organization.

Qualifications

Required Skills

  • D. & or Degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum 10 years leadership experience in a senior Operations / Engineering Leadership role within a multinational organization.
  • Proficiency in English.

Preferred Skills

  • Previous portfolio & people leadership expertise developing and implementing processes for new products/ technologies on a global scale.
  • Track record in delivering breakthrough innovation in Materials Science & Technology and business development in a technical environment.
  • Experience in Technical Platform Development Strategies in Advanced Materials Processes.
  • Previous R&D management experience in the medical device sector is considered a plus.
  • Chinese, French, Italian, Spanish or German knowledge is a plus.
