The Assistant Manager – Core Shop supports the Foundry Manager in the daily oversight of sand core operations. This role provides hands-on leadership to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality core production within a non-union manufacturing environment.

The Assistant Manager is responsible for supervising personnel, maintaining production flow, ensuring process control, and driving continuous improvement initiatives to support overall foundry performance and operational objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in managing daily sand core production to meet foundry schedules, quality standards, and cost objectives.
• Oversee sand preparation, core making, curing, handling, and storage processes to ensure consistency and reliability.
• Monitor core quality, scrap rates, and rework; implement corrective actions as necessary.
• Troubleshoot sand systems, binders, tooling, and core-making equipment to minimize downtime and defects.
• Coordinate with Maintenance to ensure core machines, mixers, and tooling operate efficiently and reliably.
• Directly supervise core shop employees, providing coaching, performance feedback, and corrective action in accordance with company policies.
• Enforce all safety policies, PPE requirements, and safe work practices specific to sand core operations.
• Ensure compliance with environmental and regulatory standards related to sand handling and production processes.
• Partner with Quality and Engineering to identify root causes of core-related casting defects and implement corrective measures.
• Communicate daily production status, staffing needs, downtime issues, and material usage to the Foundry Manager.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 3–5 years of foundry experience with direct involvement in sand core operations.
• Prior experience as a Lead, Supervisor, or Assistant Manager in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong working knowledge of core-making processes, foundry equipment, and safety standards.
